Didn’t really get to discuss the shopping in NYC, but can sum up briefly: definitely recommend a stop to Topshop and Uniqlo (a cashmere sweater for just $79 and faux fur coat for $89- out of this world!).
Could’ve passed on Madewell. Enjoyed Henri Bendel, but sad to see it become an accessories/beauty place only — I SO miss their sweater collection, which was the best quality merino wool, silk, and cashmere for reasonable prices (OK, by 5th Ave standards, but still). I did find the most delicate and interesting earrings from the Lexi Lu trunk show @ Bendels, they have a website at http://lexilujewelry.com. I got “Wonder Hoops” in the tear drop gold (see pic below), with interchangeable drops to insert in the hoops, either turquoise or Swarovski crystal in champagne. So beautiful and versatile. These would make an awesome gift too.
Bergdorf’s is always a must see if only to people watch and to lust after their huge handbag and shoe collections. Saks was another stop that was unremarkable save for finding the bag of my dreams — the Chloe Paraty cross-body in a gorgeous and of-the-moment grey tone aptly named “rock”. Was eager to order it during the pre-sale for the Friends & Family promo to get 20% off, but then learned its among the many designers excluded from the event. Eeek! Unlikely to purchase now because I just think I have a philosophical issue with spending that much on one bag — talk to me in a month or two and see if I’ve broken down.
OK – so that’s it for the trip. Now, on to other fun items I’ve found for fall — my favorite shopping season. I was looking for a military style jacket, but one that was a little more polished and not too camo or surplus jacket looking, and this is what I found from Rag & Bone on net-a-porter:
It would sure look awesome with that Chloe bag! I also found some funky booties trimmed in rabbit fur that would be great with the jacket and leggings, or skinny jeans and a tunic sweater or slim pants and a belted cardigan. Never heard of the brand before, Ash, but the shoe caught my eye and I love, love the wedge heel covered in leather.
Oh, and lastly, the Gucci belt I bought on a bit of a whim while in CA on business. It was kind of a splurge, but seriously, I’ve already worn it at least once a week and it is really can make the outfit and is so different!
So I’ve spent much of my fall clothing budget, but that’s OK because I am trying to force myself to be more selective and less impulsive about what I buy. It must be working, I’m really happy with what I’ve found so far and honestly, do not NEED anything, just wanted to freshen up my existing stuff with some versatile pieces – think these will do the trick for now.
